Children's Guardian welcomes new child protection Bill

12 May 2021

Children's Guardian Janet Schorer has welcomed a Bill to introduce a Child Safe Scheme for NSW.

In a media statement released today, Minister for Families, Communities and Disability Services, Gareth Ward, said that children and young people will be better protected by legislation introduced to NSW Parliament today which implements important recommendations from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

“This Bill will implement a legislative Child Safe Scheme to create stronger, safer environments for children in line with what the Royal Commission recommended,” he said.

In welcoming the new Bill, Ms Schorer said: “I look forward to working with child-related organisations across the state to bring the Child Safe Scheme into effect for the safety and wellbeing of children in NSW.”

"My thanks go to the many organisations and individuals who contributed to the consultations that help frame the Bill," Ms Schorer said.
